How to Save a New or Saved Word Document

A. Microsoft Word Command for Saving Documents

In general there are 2 commands that can be used to save a Word document.

B. How to Save a New Document in Microsoft Word

Here's how to save a document that you just created and saved for the first time:

  1. Create a document

    In the manufacturing stage, documents can be saved first, even though the document has not been completed. This is intended so that what is made is not lost due to unpredictable things, such as: the laptop battery runs out, computer errors, and so on.save the document while the document creation process is still in progress

  2. Klik "File > Save As"

    Then click the File ribbon then select Save As .
    Click File and select Save As

  3. Click "Browse" to select a manual save location

    There are several location options that you can use, namely:
    a). OneDrive: Microsoft online storage
    b). Other Web Locations: other online storage
    c). This PC: shortcut to computer directory
    d). Add a Place: to add custom options
    e). Browse: select the location manually (recommended)
    It is recommended to select "Browse" for novice users.
    Click Browse to select a manual save location

  4. The Save As window opens, then select a storage directory

    Select a save location in the Save As window. The initial directory displayed is the "Documents" folder, use the left navigation bar to move and speed up directory access.
    For example: the illustration will be saved on Local Disk (E :).select the document storage directory

  5. Create a Document Name and click "Save"

    a) Fill in the "File name:" column with the name of the document to be saved.
    b) "Save as type:" select the file type "Word Document (* .docx)" .
    You can also customize the file types to be saved for specific needs.
    * Word Document (* .docx): when printed with Microsoft Office 2010, 2013, 2019 and above.
    * Word 97-2003 Document (* .doc): when printed with Microsoft Office 2007 or below.

  6. New document has been saved

    Until this step, a new document has been saved with the name and file type selected.

C. How to Save Documents That Have Been Saved Under a New or Different Name

Saving documents that have been saved with a different name can be done with the Save As command or by using the shortcut F12.

  1. Open the document you want to save with a new name
  2. Klik File > Save As 
  3. Select the storage directory, can use the "Browse" option
  4. Find a directory, create a new file name, select a file type
  5. Click on Save

Why do users save documents with different names or different file types?

  • Save every document change in sequence, for example due to thesis revision.
  • Save in a different format, for example because it is printed on a different computer or requires sending in PDF format.

D. Save Document Changes without Changing Names

Usually long documents cannot be completed in one go, so they need to be saved periodically without generating new document and file names. This can be done with the Save command .
